Extension for Pool Compliance Certificates

Written by: Tracey Richardson

pool.jpgIn a media release sent out by Paul Toole, Minister for Local Government on 26 February 2015, it was advised that “pool owners will be granted a 12-month extension to make sure they have a valid compliance certificate before the property can be sold or leased.”

This means that if you are selling or leasing your property you do not need to attach a Swimming Pool Compliance Certificate to the Contract for Sale of Land until 29 April 2016.

The extension until 29 April 2016 ensures

 Councils will continue to run risk-based inspection programs, including compulsory three-yearly inspections for strata units, tourist and visitor accommodation, to improve compliance rates and child safety around backyard pools.

 More certifier courses available to ensure that the high standard of inspections is maintained;

 Increased numbers of qualified private certifiers to conduct inspections;

 Homeowners and landlords wishing to make pools compliant but experiencing a wait for a contractor will have sufficient time
